Create Your Own Oasis, Moroccan Style
Create Your Own Oasis, Moroccan Style

El Maghrib al Aqsa, The Land Farthest West , is the Arabic name for what we know as Morocco.
Morocco is a country of rich heritage and exudes fundamental beauty, it is exotic and mysterious, but also offers a whole new outlook on color and sensual appeal.
Visitors to the country are spellbound from the time they arrive until the time of departure.
Because Morocco remained relatively free from foreign invasion until the early 20th Century it was able to maintain its natural cultural characteristics of Berber, Arab, Islamic, Iberian and African. European cultural characteristics were introduced during the early 1900 s through to 1956 when the country was a part of France and Spain.
A traditional Moroccan house with an interior garden is called a “Riad” and has virtually remained unchanged for over five centuries.
Most Moroccan houses have an elaborate wooden door which is symbolic of that threshold between the public street and the private living area.
Moroccan decor and style has cast a veil of magic that extends to many parts of the world, those intense colors reminiscent of raw terra cotta clay, the reds of mountains of paprika seen in any spice markets, the blue of the Mediterranean and intense yellow of the Sahara sands being evident wherever one travels.
The intense blue of the Jardin Majorelle, Marrakesh, has to be seen to be believed. This blue is said to be unique and endeavors to exactly copy have apparently failed.
Moroccan lighting with its patterns and designs reminiscent of the best in Moroccan- Islamic architecture is one of the reasons for the upsurge in Moroccan dcor.
The beauty of these intricate filigree lanterns, some with colored glass inserts, is that they are just as effective with the use of candles or hard wired for electricity.
Moroccan lighting is unique.
